The Joel Morwood Interview (58 min) was produced in 1983 (Wolff was ninety-six years old at the time). The video begins with Joel hiking to “The Ashrama,” a structure that Wolff and his students built in California’s eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains (see “The Ashrama” page tabbed on the header of this website).
Interviews of Wolff were conducted during the production of two films that were made at a time when the Ashrama’s historical significance was being evaluated by the National Forest Service:
- The Philosopher’s Stone (14 min) was created by Faustin Bray and Brian Wallace in 1980, of which a transcript of the audio portion is available.
- Ashrama Man (12 min) was produced by Mammoth Cable TV in January 1984.
Interviews made during the production of these films include:
- Interview with the Sage: Faustin Bray interviews Franklin Merrell-Wolff is a ninety-nine-minute interview of Wolff during the production of The Philosopher’s Stone. The beginning sentence of this interview is available on the producer’s YouTube channel (8.5 min).
- Ashrama Man Interview (30 min) was conducted during the production of Franklin Wolff: Ashrama Man.
- Ashrama Man Exit Interview (5 min) is a short interview with Wolff after the filming of The Ashrama Man.
In addition to these videos, a 1983 interview of Wolff was published in Laughing Man Magazine 4, No. 4 (1984), 55-60.
